Oct. 8: The Spectrum got an exclusive interview with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Spectrum reporters are the only media Blair agreed to speak with during his trip to UB for the Distinguished Speakers series.
Speakers:
Oct. 8 Steve Liesman, CNBC's senior economics reporter, and Jim Militello, Associated Press radio sports reporter, spoke to students about their experiences in journalism and how journalism is changing.
Liesman served as Moscow bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal from 1996-1998 and was part of a reporting team that won a Pulitzer Prize for stories chronicling the crash of the Russian financial market. He now appears on CNBC's "Squawk Box."
Militello is a 29-year veteran radio sports reporter with the Associated Press Radio Network in Washington, D.C. He has covered 13 Olympic Games, as well as numerous Super Bowls, World Series, NBA Finals, Final Fours, Wimbledons, Masters, US Open Golf tournaments, US Open Tennis tournaments, British Opens, PGA Chamipionships, Kentucky Derbys and Belmont Stakes.
Sept. 16 Amy Dunkin, Director of Academic Operations at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism and a former reporter at the Spectrum, spoke to students about careers in journalism, graduate school admittance and the skills today's journalists need to succeed on Wednesday, Sept. 16. At the end of the talk, she answered students' questions. She hosted a second talk at the UB Spectrum office in the Student Union.
